An objective of the ACZISC is to "communicate" with relevant programs and organizations with respect to coastal zone information and ICOM activities. As such, the ACZISC is making efforts to develop and maintain linkages with complementary organizations, including:

BAY OF FUNDY ECOSYSTEM PARTNERSHIP (BOFEP)

COASTAL ZONE CANADA ASSOCIATION AND CZC CONFERENCE SERIES

EAST COAST OF NORTH AMERICA STRATEGIC ASSESSMENT PROJECT

GULF OF MAINE COUNCIL ON THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT

OCEAN MANAGEMENT RESEARCH NETWORK (OMRN)

SOUTHERN GULF OF ST. LAWRENCE COALITION ON SUSTAINABILITY (SGSLCS) /
COALITION POUR LA VIABILITÉ DU SUD DU GOLFE SAINT-LAURENT (CVSGSL)

BAY OF FUNDY ECOSYSTEM PARTNERSHIP
The Bay of Fundy Ecosystem Partnership (BoFEP) focuses on the Bay of Fundy, its resources and ecosystems, its natural beauty, and its people and communities. BoFEP is dedicated, in part, to promoting the conservation, protection and restoration of the ecological integrity, vitality, biodiversity and productivity of the Bay of Fundy ecosystem, in support of the social well-being and economic sustainability of its coastal communities.

BoFEP supporters have identified the need for more coordinated research, better information transfer between stakeholders, and more direct and effective interaction between the communities, scientists and managers. BoFEP Working Groups are undertaking several projects relating to communications, data synthesis and research.

The 8th Bay of Fundy Science Workshop was held on 26-29 May 2009 in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. The theme was Resource development and its implications in the Bay of Fundy and Gulf of Maine. Topics included: Tidal power/environmental implications; Fisheries - coastal and offshore; Aquaculture; Mining - coastal and land-based; Resource development and sustainability of coastal communities; Oil and gas; Watershed issues; Cross-border issues; Impacts on coastal wildlife; Environmental monitoring and indicators; and First Nations and community based programs. The Workshop Proceedings are available at http://www.bofep.org/bofep_workshops.htm.

COASTAL ZONE CANADA ASSOCIATION AND CZC CONFERENCE SERIES
The Coastal Zone Canada Association is a Canadian nationally incorporated non-profit society of coastal zone management professionals and others interested in and supportive of Integrated Coastal Zone Management goals in Canada and abroad. It was incorporated in 1993 with the objective of sponsoring ICZM conferences and otherwise promoting improvements in ICZM practices. Conferences are held every two years, on the even year.

The international conference Coastal Zone Canada 2010 is scheduled for 25-29 July 2010 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. 15 April 2010 is the deadline for early registration. The theme is Healthy Oceans - Strong Coastal Communities. Sub-themes include: the Challenges of coastal management in Canada; Linking land and ocean planning and management; Strengthening coastal communities; Planning for the impacts of climate change; and Coastal policy planning for PEI.

EAST COAST OF NORTH AMERICA STRATEGIC ASSESSMENT PROJECT
The East Coast of North America Strategic Assessment Project (ECNASAP) was a joint project (1994-1996) between researchers from Canada and the US. ECNASAP was coordinated by the ACZISC in Canada and by NOAA in the US. The aim of the project was to compile a comprehensive database of coastal and offshore living resources which can be used to characterize and monitor the ecosystems for the estuaries and coastal ocean of the east coast of North America.

One of the emphases of the ECNASAP project was on the offshore, specifically on the characterization of the communities of bottom dwelling fish or groundfish. A Groundfish Atlas was produced which includes composite distribution maps of the 99 most abundant species of groundfish encountered in the study area.

GULF OF MAINE COUNCIL ON THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT
The Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment (GoM) was established in December 1989 by two Canadian Provinces (New Brunswick and Nova Scotia) and three U.S. States (Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire) to maintain and enhance marine environmental quality in the Gulf of Maine and to allow for sustainable resource use. The Gulf of Maine Times provides up-to-date information on the GoM Council and its activities.

The Council Action Plan for 2007-2012 describes the outcomes and activities that the Council is pursuing through its committees and partnerships. The Plan is based on three overarching, long-range goals: Coastal and marine habitats are in a healthy, productive, and resilient condition; Environmental conditions support ecosystem and human health; and Coastal communities are vibrant and have marine-dependent industries that are healthy and globally competitive. The Plan is available at http://gulfofmaine.org/actionplan/index.php.

OCEAN MANAGEMENT RESEARCH NETWORK
The aim of the Ocean Management Research Network is to create and share knowledge for the application of critical thinking and best practices to oceans management in Canada. The OMRN is interdisciplinary, with an initial focus on social science, providing a forum for researchers, managers, and policymakers to evaluate timely and innovative linkages, integrate lessons learned, transfer and share knowledge, and help create an expert core of ocean researchers. The OMRN facilitates value-added research, provides seed funding, and seeks to establish a long-term research agenda.

The OMRN conferences, held every two years, provide a forum for ocean and coastal researchers, managers and policy-makers to share ideas and to discuss the current state of knowledge, research gaps and national priorities for the use and management of Canada's three oceans. The 2009 OMRN National Conference was held on 21-24 October 2009 in Ottawa, Ontario. The Conference focused on the recognized need to include insights from studies of the human dimension, alongside the natural sciences, in ocean policy and management and in implementing the Oceans Act, Canada's Ocean Strategy and the Oceans Action Plan. The themes were: Integrated management and coastal management areas; the Arctic Ocean, TEK and northern development; Ocean's valuation; and State of the ocean's reporting.
